September is already in full swing. Aside from hurting my knee last month I also stubbed my toe a week or so later. (For real). But everything better now.

I haven’t watched too many drama’s. I have trouble staying committed to them. I just lose interest very easily sometimes. But I did finish. ひだまりが聞こえる. Absolutely loved that one and I kinda wished it was longer.

I’ve noticed it’s better for me to keep up with my other hobby’s such as gaming and so. I’ve been feeling a bit more upbeat lately because of that.

While I was in Japan I bought a Novel called “かなたの I F “. It was a total cover buy. But the Japanese inside is surprisingly doable. I still need to relearn some Kanji through. I’ve forgotten a lot. Earlier today I had to look up 動物 (animal)🤣 I just couldn’t recall what it was. Also 物語(story)was completely lost on me 🫣It made me cackle a bit. I’m trying not to be so strict of myself for not knowing. It’s a very relaxed approach to my Japanese learning.

I hope I can stick with this book. It will be my first novel. And if not then that’s okay too. 👍

My Love Mix-up is one of the first manga I’ve read and actually understood what’s going on. Reading actual Japanese (not textbook) can be quite challenging. You kinda have to get in the flow of things, trying not to stop at the first word you don’t know and keep reading until it kinda clicks.

I’ve started many Japanese manga, but I’ve always give up. But I had a couple volumes in English. I had already watched the Japanese drama so I knew the story quite well. Viz’s publishing was still at volume 3 at that point. I didn’t have much patience and bought the rest of the volumes in Japanese.

While the beginning was quite tough. I’m happy I persevered and kept reading. I think I finished all the volumes in a couple months. Even though I didn’t understand everything. I was very happy with this accomplishment.

However once you read a full series it’s easy to think. “I can read now” and then be disillusioned by the next manga you try. I have been trying to read another manga here and there, but my level is not there yet. So these last couple months I’ve been focusing on grammar and kanji.

I really want to try reading Given. Maybe I need to give it another go. 🤔

Hi everyone,

I’m really happy with all the response I’ve gotten on my posts. You’ve all been so kind. 😊
I don’t know if there are many people also here who learn Japanese, but let me know. I’d love to talk about it.
Let me start me start with why I want to learn in the first place.

In 2010 Gundam Wing released a series of official novels called Frozen Teardrop. I’ve been a fan of the show and I must admit particularly the character Heero Yuy since I first saw him. I was mesmerised 😂

So they released it. I went trough a lot of hurdles to collect some of them I just wanted them for the art. But when I got them and flicked trough it. It really peaked my interest and I wondered Is it possible to learn this.

Mind you I never finished high school due to circumstances, so my confidence in studying was pretty low. But then in 2014 I took the plunge and enrolled in a weekly Japanese class. Over the next 4 years I went to the classes, but to me it was sometimes a bit too difficult. So in 2018 I gave up. I couldn’t remember all the kanji, I just wasn’t feeling confident. (I also met my boyfriend then so I had other things on my mind 😂)

In the beginning of 2020 I was feeling restless again. Struggling a bit mentally because of the boredom I suddenly experienced at work. I wanted to be productive, learn something. So I decided to study as hard as I could. In the months jan-aug I really studied hard. Probably everyday. It became a bit of an obsession.

So the following year I decided to enrol again in those weekly classes. The sensei was probably very surprised to see me back. My obsession with studying has lessened a bit. But I still have the goal in sight to read Japanese, not necessarily those Frozen Teardrop novels, but I realised there are so many good Japanese books out there that are not available for the west and I kinda want to read them.

To anyone familiar with JLPT levels. My level is about N4. I’ve been trying to break through to N3, but there are still a lot things I need to learn.

In September classes start again. I’m kinda happy to get into it again. This summer I have been a bit lazy, but sometimes your mind needs to rest.

I apologise for any grammatical errors. English isn’t my first language.

Hi there,

I’ve been feeling a bit fed up with social media. I posted a similar post on my instagram where I ranted about how facebook, instagram aren’t social anyone. You never see any post from friends, interaction is almost zero. I feel like the internet was also a much friendlier place 10+ years ago.

So I went looking for an alternative. I remember LJ from many years ago and I really like that format of posting. LJ is pretty old though, so this is a hopefully still active community. I’m looking forward to blogging about my fav manga, my art and my Japanese studies.
